Merlin Entertainments Group has agreed a deal with the Nagoya Municipal Government to build a new LEGOLAND Japan theme park in the city.

Japan Times reports that the park will cover 10 hectares on the Kinjo Pier, and is expected to open in 2015. It will become the eighth LEGOLAND park to be opened by the UK-based operator, and the second to open in Asia.

Few other details have been released of LEGOLAND Japan, although it is likely to feature the same basic elements as the existing LEGOLAND parks. This will include a range of rides, shows and exhibits aimed at families with children aged 2-12, along with attractions based on Merlin's other brands (such as Sea Life aquariums).

Merlin currently operates LEGOLAND theme parks in England, Denmark, Germany, California and Florida. LEGOLAND Malaysia is due to open in autumn 2012, while it was recently revealed that the company is also planning to open a LEGOLAND park in Korea.
