Alton Towers Water Park closes for winter refurbishment

Alton Towers Water Park
The Alton Towers Water Park is set to receive a fresh lick of paint during January.

Alton Towers Water Park is now closed, with the resort taking advantage of the winter low-season to carry out refurbishment work for several weeks.

The water park will be closed from January 3-20, returning to operations on Friday, January 21, 2011. The resort's two hotels - the Alton Towers Hotel and the Splash Landings hotel - will remain open during this period, although with both the water park and the theme park closed they are unlikely to draw large numbers of guests.

The Alton Towers Water Park originally opened as Cariba Creek in 2003, featuring a tropical lagoon theme. It covers 40,000 square feet and is one of Europe's largest indoor water parks. Originally, entry was only available to guests at Alton Towers' two hotels, but in 2004 the park was opened to the public for an entry fee.
