Rumors have emerged online that Disney is planning a new attraction for Disneyland's Tomorrowland based on the upcoming Tron: Legacy movie.
Blue Sky Disney claims that Disney's Imagineers have been given the green light to begin early concept development for the attraction, although no decision has been made to move ahead with the project beyond that stage. If it does move into full production, the Tron attraction could anchor the long-rumored overhaul of the entire Tomorrowland area.
Tron: Legacy is due to debut in US theaters on December 17, and is the sequel to 1982's Tron. It tells the story of Sam Flynn, who is haunted by the loss of his videogame-developer father. Much of the movie takes place in the digitally-generated "Grid" universe that would be likely to be the focus of any planned theme park attraction.
In anticipation of the movie's release, Disney has already added ElecTRONica, an evening show based on the movie, to Disneyland's sister park California Adventure.
