Thorpe Park has submitted a planning application for a new 19.4 metre-tall water ride, which it hopes to open in time for the 2011 season.
The ride will be located in the Octopus Garden area of the park, which is currently populated with rides aimed at younger guests. Thorpe Park says it will appeal to families as well as its core thrill-seeking audience of 16-34 year-olds, although it is yet to reveal the precise nature of the water ride.
The planning application was submitted to Runnymede Borough Council on July 8, 2010. Little can be gleaned from the information currently listed on the council's website, although the full plans are likely to be posted within the next few days. Theme Park Tourist will provide a summary of the plans when they become available.
Thorpe Park plans to add five new rides between 2011 and 2016, in addition to 2 new rollercoasters (which are currently planned to open in 2012 and 2015). The park recently detailed its Medium Term Development Plan in an extensive series of documents submitted to the council. A full breakdown of the planned upgrades can be found in our in-depth analysis of Thorpe Park's plans for 2010-2016.
