Cedar Point CEO Dick Kinzel has revealed that the park has already ordered a new thrill ride for the 2011 season, but did not confirm what it will be.
Speaking to the Sandusky Register, Kinzel described the ride as "very exciting" but refused to confirm whether it would be a new rollercoaster. Cedar Point is currently tied with Six Flags Magic Mountain on 17 coasters each as "coaster capital of the world".
The park will open a new family water ride, Shoot the Rapids, on May 29. Kinzel promised that next year's ride will be aimed at a different market, saying "Let me just put it this way. We went after the family market this year...we’re going to go after the thrill seeker next year.”
Refusing to be drawn on the nature of the ride, Kinzel went on to say "There’s more thrill rides than rollercoasters. I can’t tell you what it is. It’s a very exciting ride.”
Further details of Cedar Point's new attraction are expected to be revealed later this year, with Shoot the Rapids having been announced in September 2009 ahead of its 2010 opening.
