Disneyland drains Rivers of America

Disneyland has begun draining Frontierland's Rivers of America, resulting in the temporary closure of a number of attractions.
It is the first time Disney has drained the river since 2003, and will enable the refurbishment of a number of attractions. Closed until May 6 will be Sailing Ship Columbia, the Mark Twain Riverboat, Davy Crockett's Explorer Canoes and Tom Sawyer Island. The Fantasmic show, which takes place on the river, will also be out of action until May 6 at the earliest.
January is traditionally a quiet period for Disneyland and it is therefore no surprise to see the Rivers of America attractions, along with several others, undergoing "rehab" during the month. However, the length of the refurbishment period is unusual in that it will see the attractions out of action throughout the busy Easter period. This is a necessary evil for Disneyland in order to completely drain and refurbishment the artificial river.
