Universal Studios Japan announces mystery $55m space ride for 2010

Universal Studios Japan has revealed that it will open a new $55 million (4-5 billion yen) space-themed attraction in 2010.

Few details were released of the ride, which will simulate a trip to outer space. It will take visitors on a 585-meter ride through the solar system, but it is not known what ride system will be used or whether the new attraction will be themed around an existing or upcoming Universal movie.

Like many parks around the world, Universal Studios has struggled with a slump in visitor numbers in 2009 due to the global recession. The park is hoping to boost visitor numbers with the new space attraction and the recent introduction of a night-time parade.
