Universal Studios Hollywood will debut "Creature From the Black Lagoon: A Raging, Rockin' Show" on July 1.
The new show, based on the classic monster movie, is a Broadway-style musical featuring an original score. At 25 minutes long, it is a major production and features one of the world's largest puppets in the role of the "Creature".
Creature From The Black Lagoon will sit on the site of the former Fear Factor Live show, which closed last year. Universal claims that "from the production's first moments, guests will be thrust into an unexpectedly outrageous, bizarrely romantic, melodic and often outlandishly comic adventure as this monster classic is re-imagined for the 21st Century."
Meanwhile, the studio's backlot (which was badly damaged by a fire last year) is continuing its rapid recovery under the "Phoenix Project". Westcoaster posted an updated this week, showing several of the new sets seemingly nearing completion.
Universal has promised that the famous Courthouse Square (from the "Back to the Future" movies), Brownstone Street and New York Street will all return when the sets reopen this summer. In addition, new sets will include a London street and a "modern urban cityscape".
The Courthouse Square area was badly damaged during the fire last June, which burnt the New York Street set to the ground and also destroyed a sound stage which studio tours passed through to meet "King Kong".
