This indoor boat ride was originally scheduled to open alongside the rest of Universal Studios Singapore in March2010, but has suffered from a series of technical issues. It finally opened to the public more than a year later, in May 2011.

Madagascar: A Crate Adventure is a heavily-themed attraction featuring the animated characters from the Dreamworks movies. The river boat ride's plot centers around Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria as they take on the foosas with the aid of the devious penguins.

The ride has been plagued by technical problems since construction began in 2009. This led to the complete replacement of the ride's fleet of boats, as well as the removal of several scenes from its course.
