Located in Anaheim, California, the Disneyland Resort is home to two of the world's most popular theme parks: Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. It also boasts three on-site themed hotels, guests of which receive special early-entry privileges for the parks. The Downtown Disney entertainment district hosts a variety of shops and restaurants, as well as a multi-screen cinema complex.
Park History
The Disneyland Resort grew around the original Disneyland theme park, which proved to be a massive success after its debut in 1955. Frustrated by the urban sprawl that soon enveloped the park, Walt Disney switched his attention to Walt Disney World in Florida. Eventually, in the 1980s, Disney began the process of transforming Disneyland into a multi-day destination, acquiring the third party-run Disneyland Hotel in 1989 and opening a second park (Disney California Adventure) and two further hotels by 2001.
