Located on the border between North and South Carolina, Carowinds is home to a wide array of roller coasters (13 in total), thrill rides and water rides. While the park's main focus is on the teenage and young adult market, it does also host a sprawling children's area, Planet Snoopy, themed around the Peanuts characters. Its biggest draw is Intimidator, a Bolliger & Mabillard Hypercoaster that opened in 2010.
History: Carowinds opened in 1973, immediately suffering from the effects of the oil crisis that had struck the US at that time. The park was eventually acquired by Paramount Parks in 1994, being renamed as Paramount's Carowinds. This title was dropped when, in 2006, Cedar Fair bought out the Paramount Parks chain. Many of the movie tie-ins that existed during the Paramount years have since been dropped, with theming now less prominent on most rides.
